LG, Good Neighbors Bangladesh launches cleaning, mosquito prevention week

Multinational electronics company LG and international NGO Good Neighbors Bangladesh have jointly launched ‘Special Cleaning and Mosquito Prevention Week’ in Dhaka.

Managing Director of LG Electronics Bangladesh Edward Kim has inaugurated the initiative at Mirpur on Tuesday morning. Commissioner of Ward No. 7 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Alhaz Mobasser Hossein Chowdhuri was also present at the inauguration ceremony.

Country Director of Good Neighbors Bangladesh  Jeoung Sek Kim was president of the programme.

Referring latest report of World Health Organization (WHO), Edward Kim in his opening remarks said, “Though danger of malaria certainly declines by 47pc over the past 15 years, but one child dies of malaria in every minute till now. Besides, dengue fever becomes a common public health issue in the city.

In this context, it is needed to create awareness about mosquito-borne diseases. We are keen to aware people over mosquito-borne diseases under our corporate social responsibility. So we have initiated the programme with Good Neighbors Bangladesh.”

Saying last week LG launched Mosquito Inverter for the first time in Bangladesh he added “LG will continue to engage this kind of CSR Activities by utilizing profit from LG product sales here in Bangladesh and continue to have mosquito prevention as well as health care campaign”.

Country Director of Good Neighbor Bangladesh said, we will drive cleaning programme, mosquito killing with fogger machine and awareness building campaign in 12 schools at Mirpur and Gulshan area over the week.

Some 250 volunteers participated at the first day of the campaign in Mirpur. A cultural event was also held under the awareness campaign. One week programme will be divided into two parts- 11-18 Aprilat Mirpur and 19-21 April at Gulshan area.
