Institute of Mining, Mineralogy and Metallurgy, BCSIR

The Institute of Mining, Mineralogy and Metallurgy (IMMM), BCSIR, Joypurhat and formally inaugurated by the Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasinaon 22 January 2012 is One of the impressive entities of Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR) The IMMM has three research divisions namely mining, mineralogy and metallurgy. IMMM has considerably explored its research pitch particularly focusing nationalmineral resources and processing, metallurgy and allied issues.

Particularly based on sand mineral processing activities of IMMM, Bangladesh Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (BCSIR), Bangladesh and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), Melbourne, Australia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and also to encourage collaboration in areas of mutual research interests and benefits to both partners on August 26, 2015. The current priority objective is to encourage joint research activities primarily in the areas of characterization of mineral sands resources, deposits, technology evaluation for sand mining and mineral sand processing. Jonathan Law signed on behalf of CSIRO, Melbourne, Australia and I,MdNazrul Islam, the Chairman of BCSIR, signed on behalf of Bangladesh in the presence of Architect Yeafesh Osman, Honorable Minister for the Ministry of Science and Technology, The People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

BCSIR is also going to establish collaborative research work particularly based on the activities of IMMM with CSIR-Inst of Mineralsand Materials Technology (CSIR-IMMT), Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India and Korean Institute of Geosciences and Mineral Resources (KIGAM) in South Korea. IMMM has made a substantial development in R&D activities as well as in analytical services and has achieved a prestigious position through providing mineralogical services to different organizations both at home (Padma Bride and Several Power Plants) and abroad (particularly based in Australia, UK and Burma). The IMMM has carried out a good number of international scientific publications, processes and patents developed by the scientist during the past years. The scientists and researchers are sincerely engaged in the development of industrialization by utilizing various ore and process minerals.
