Dhaka College is a renowned institution of Indo-Pak Sub Continent. It was established in
1841 A.D. Dhaka College has a great contribution and remarkable achievement in
spreading education in this country. Mr. J IRELAND is the first Principal of this college.
At present it has nineteen department. Honors and Masters Course are affiliated in nineteen Department Arabic & Islamic Studies department is situated in administrative building.
Arabic & Islamic Studies is one of oldest and largest Department of this college. From beginning Arabic was affiliated in Dhaka College. Arabic is an ancient subject of Dhaka College. After some times Islamic studies is also affiliated. Now Arabic & Islamic Studies is a renowned Department of this college. National University first gave permission to introduce M.A preliminary course. Masters final course was affiliated in 1994-1995 session under National University. Honors course was affiliated in 2005-2006 session. In the academic session 2001-2002, the traditional three year B.A (Honours) course has been changed to four year B.A (Honours). Every year a large number of Students are completed Honors and Masters Course successfully. The result of this Department is remarkable and satisfactory. Several times this Department was first position in Honors and masters level under National University. Total Students of this Department is near about 1200. Besides, the students of the department are involved in different extra-curriculum activities which help them immensely to have real-life experience.
The department has been well recognized and students are happy with the teaching technique and method of their respected teachers. Since its inception teachers has always been in close contact with the students, look after their academic and personal wellbeing to make them worthy citizen.
The department has a seminar rich with a range of books, articles and journal of the concerned subjects matters. The department not only provides a sound and efficient learning programs but also ensures a healthy academic environment and incredible Teacher-Student relationship. The department is proud of its praiseworthy faculty comprising of members, having rich educational background and high dignity. The department promotes execution of study tours to enlighten the students with proper theoretical learning in harmony with practical experiences.
Despite of all these educational affairs the department also encourages various competitions, creation of wall magazine, essay competition and lively activities in Dhaka debating club.
Thus, history, witnessed that the students of the department of Arabic & Islamic Studies have attained outstanding results in the examinations as well as been dynamic in co-curriculum activities & sensible in pragmatic situations of life. They not only flourish the name of Department of Arabic & Islamic Studies with their educational merits, but also play significant roles to contribute in diverse sectors of the society, the country and the aboard.
