The Office of the Chief Accounts Officer (CAO), Internal Resource Division (IRD), Ministry of Finance was established in 1984. It is situated on ground floor of CGA building segunbagicha, Dhaka. All CAO officersare working within the jurisdiction of the Controller General of Accounts. A CAO also performs his/her duties as an advisor to the Principal Accounting Officer (PAO) i.e., Secretary to the Ministry. A CAO prepares annual appropriation accounts with the approval of PAO and then sends it to Controller General of Accounts (CGA).

CAO, IRD performs pre-audit activities such as; fixations of pay officers and staffs as per national pay scale, settlement of pension & other claims, maintain General Provident Fund (GPF) accounts, approve advance/final payment of GPF and issue accounts slip.
accounting activities such as prepare budget estimate of CAO office, incorporate monthly account in central Integrated Budgeting and Accounting System (iBAS) within a time bar, reconcile with the department’s receipts and expenditure.

Service Delivered
Every month 1548 (one thousand five hundred forty eight) pensioners take service directlyfrom cao office. The numbers of family pensioners are159 (one hundred fifty nine).

CAO office is accomplished pay fixation (total 5655) as per new Pay Scale-2015.

Conclusion
According to National Board of Revenue, IRD, Ministry of Finance motto -we can also say this- 5cs are indispensable for improving relationship at all levels. Here C stands for Cooperation, Coordination, Coherence, Commitment and Courage. So, by abide by the 5cs CAO office can achieve its mission and vision.
