CUET: Institute of Earthquake Engineering Research

Professor Dr. Md. Abdur Rahman Bhuiyan, Director, (IEER)

The Institute of Earthquake Engineering Research (IEER) is formed as a research institute at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology in 2012. However, the journey of the institute had started since 2002 through establishing a center entitled “Center for Earthquake Engineering Research (EERC)” . with the objective of providing necessary forum for Architects, Planners, Scientists, and Engineers to exchange ideas, views in the problems of earthquake engineering and engineering seismology at home and abroad. The institute is established first time in the country completely focusing on earthquake engineering and engineering seismology related research in Bangladesh. The main vision of the institute is to promote and provide facilities for advanced studies and research, training and diploma for professionals, post graduate research and advanced development for the researchers and awareness activities for the people in the field of earthquake and disaster engineering and to help in formulating the codes of practices for earthquake resistant design and construction of new building structures and seismic strengthening of existing building and engineering structures. The Institute has launched the postgraduate diploma program studies on Earthquake Engineering from the year of 2014. At the moment several research projects are running under this Institute.
